This year, Mia has entered that tricky place of wanting to trick-or-treat and at the same time feeling ridiculous doing it. Which means that next year she'll be way too cool for it and will opt out - YES!
Halloween annoys me for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. It's definitely not because it's history is rooted in witch craft and blah, blah, blah. I couldn't really care less about all that. And we all know it's not about the candy, because I'm a huge fan. I think it's mainly because of the whining and melt-downs involved in the costuming process and then, inevitably, I'm left at every fall festival holding and keeping up with multiple costumes parts, treat buckets, sweaty socks, and candy wrappers. It turns out that every year I end up dressed as a human garbage can.
Bode doesn't have a clue what he is. Nor do we.
In other, more interesting news, meet Mia's latest creation - her gourd-child.
Her latest book project was to decorate a pumpkin to represent a character in a mystery book.
She saw this gourd at the pumpkin patch and immediately saw an infant.
I saw it and saw....a gourd.
I allowed her to super glue creepy, plastic doll arms to an American Girl silk doll dress only because it's the most use she's ever gotten out of it.
I love weird kids.

Porter School doesn't do Halloween Parties......or dress up for school!! To top it off since we don't live "in town" we told our kids we were just going to invite a bunch of people over for Halloween instead of going Trick-or-Treating. They are all surprisingly okay with this. So no new costumes for us, insert me jumping up and down....however we may have a mass amount of people at our house. Stay tuned.....
Gourd baby is great! I can't say I really miss all the Halloween festivities. Although next year I'll probably be back doing the Trunk or Treat if my son's Mystery Machine is available for the Scooby Doo gang! What I don't miss is what you are talking about - spending virtually the whole month of October finding just the right touches for my kid's costumes. Because of course, being the parent I was, I would NEVER let my kids wear something store-bought. I should've gotten over it a long time ago.
I have to be honest. I may have nightmares about gourd baby. Though I can't stop looking at it, either.
oh Summer...I made the mistake reading this post while I"m proctoring an exam right now. I may have laughed out loud and gotten a few dirty looks from stressed chemistry students.
