Mia requires freakishly little sleep for a three year old (it's the Andy in her). Naps are completely out of the question (she hasn't napped regularly since 18 months) and she usually doesn't fall asleep until somewhere in between 10:00 and 11:00 PM. In order to maintain sanity in our home, all children must be out of sight by 8:30 so that means she has a lot of time to kill in her bedroom. I usually stop in on my way to bed to see what she's doing. Lately she has had letters waiting for me when I arrive.
Here are a few:
This one says, "I want (wut) Mom."
This one, "I miss (mes) you (u)."
And finally, "I will (wel) cry (kri) if (ef) you (u) go."
What's next, a suicide note? Bedtime is going to move to 10:30 from now on - I can't take the guilt.

Um, now I feel like a horrible mom because Macy can't even correctly write her name, let alone a note.

That last one looks like "I will knife you." I'd watch your back.

I think you need to send her down for some Texas time - that way she can teach Ethan how to write and she can keep him company while he's singing the 147th made up song at 11:15. UGH!

No, keep her bedtime where it is. She will continue to improve her writing skills, perhaps other creative avenues and then she will be a genius child placing Ivy League schools in awe. They will be fighting each other for her attendance to their school and will offer all sorts of incentives to grab your attention and you won't have to pay for a prestigious school and she will pursue some amazing career making millions thus enabling her to take care of you all and she will owe it all to your bedtime ritual.

I agree, she writes very well. And if it makes you feel any better I just put our 3 year old to bed tonight at 10:45. It's the me in her that can be blamed. She hasn't had a nap schedule in who knows how long. Definitely before she turned two.

Bedtime...I remember when Debbie Sehon told me.."You're lives are going to change drastically when Mandi & Kacee start to school"...you see, if we got them to be b/4 10:30 p.m they would come running down the hall when they heard ""Heeeeere's Johnny....." I'm so proud her grandaughter is a night owl!!! I love it!!!
